Week 12: Herald of Discord - Zombie and Jedi

So I have the models for week 10 and 11, still working on week 12.

My friend recently became interested in doing a blood bowl team. Since I had some extra zombies and always liked the idea of Necromancers, I figured I'd do up a team as well. I have already featured one of the blood bowl zombies on here and now I give you the second. This brings the number of zombies painted for blood bowl up to four!

All of the techniques used on the previous zombie are used here. The only difference is I tried to copy the red skin, but with agreen tinge did not come out well and I simply dryburshed heavily with bronzed flesh to make the zombie look more like a decomposing corpse and less like a decomposing goblin....

I also had some extra high elf bowmen bits. They were really chunky due to the previous owner's poor attempted at base coating and pretty much destined for a bad paint job...luckily, that was there destiny anyway as they belong to me now :P
I converted them both, changing one into a Jedi, the other to a Sith. While the Sith is still in the works, I will show you the Jedi.
I used a white base coat, then painted the cloths with a watered down brown. I then went over the deeper parts with just straight brown. The sabre is simply watered down green dry brushed with some white and a bit of yellow. The chest piece is straight mithril silver with a black wash and the belt is yellow with a flesh wash. If I ever do a Jedi RPG, I now have my very own Jedi adventurer miniature. Yay for Star Wars models.

Week 12 - Wraith Witch Denegra

Well, starting to finally hit the wall a bit. Did an Epic version of Denegra last night I had kicking around for a while to try and keep up the momentum. With a unit of Dire Avengers and another of Howling Banshees waiting their turn I'm going to have to get my ass back in gear...

Week 12: Hivemind - Terminator Assault

This week I'm working on a squad of Games Workshop's Assault Terminators for 40K.

They are destined to be Crimson Fists. Obviously in various stages, I'm adding detail to them and will be repainting them.

You can follow along more at my personal blog here:

Week 11: The Raf - Eldar Wraithlord

Finished my Wraithlord last night, he's my second in the army so I can now run an Iyanden-themed force with two 'Lords and a full unit of 10 Wraithguard if I like. The weapons are magnetized as usual and the look is the same Saim-Hann style like the rest of my Eldar stuff. I just love the new (4th edition...) Wraithlord sculpt so much more than the old one and the customizability of the plastic kit is awesome. I gave his left hand a multipurpose pose to either look like he's resting the sword on it or supporting his Bright Lance hand cannon, depending on how I equip him.

Next up in the painting line: a couple of Cryx warcasters and my other unit of 10 Dire Avengers!

Week 10: Scallywag.

This is a 28mm beastie with crazy detail. Its a mini that seemed a great idea at the time. I was really looking for a guy in armor. Like a anti-paladin. I originally thought he fit the bill, but he is more of a armored barbarian kind of guy. I was going to do him in silver, but changed to red. This is a mini where you could go crazy on if you really wanted to. I liked the sword and scabbard and some of the armor turned out smooth.

Week 10: The Herald of Discord - Malcadon Spyrer

For this week I quickly painted a conversion for my spyrer gang. I particularly dislike the malcadon models, so I made my own, just in case I wanted to play one. I tried highlighting in green, but as I recently found out, my desk as very poor lighting. Thus, the yellow is rather chalky and Ill probably have to work on this model some more. However, like most of my models, shee looks good on the table top...just not under close scrutiny.

I put blue in her hair to make her look a little more wild and punky, to fit in the necromunda style. The red sash is to add contrast and a large ratskin cape to add flair and break up the green. Her claws were also going to be green, but when I accidentally smeared some with silver, I liked it and continued with it. I think she looks good next to my only other fully painted spyrer.

I also took some shots of the two units of Chaos Space Marines I have. One is silver, mostly painted by a friend. The other was supposed to be tarnished silver but suffered an unfortunate accident. I am in the process of saving the brown ones and browning the silver ones to make a cohesive unit.

Week 10 - Eldar Fire Prism

As promised, here is my Fire Prism, at long last painted for battle. All my larger vehicles have the white patches going, it's the trademark of my army. The prism crystal is painted with ever-lightened shades of criss-crossing blue lines. I'm happy to say the effect didn't take as long as you might think. Like my other vehicles this guy is primed red, painted Red Blood, drybrushed dark orange, then light orange and finally inked with GW red ink. Incidentally, I'm starting to run out of the ink and GW doesn't sell it anymore so if anyone knows where to get more I'd appreciate any leads.

Hope you enjoy the Prism, look for some more troops and characters up next in the pipeline.

Week 9: Scallywag, Sniper chap 2

My 9th mini is another in the sniper guys for my army. Kept to the same color scheme as the other one. I still hate the heads. I am going for a cartoon kind of feel as the sculpts are just not very realistic, but if I look at them as if they came from a animated show, then I don't mind them as much. They are heroic 28mm so it fits. I was almost tempted to buy a different set of heads to go on them, but the cost of some of the after market options from 3rd party places are almost as much as the base mini's themselves. That didn't seem to make much sense. To paint these guys are not to bad. There isn't an insane amount of detail to work with, which is good. I love detail, but prefer it on the larger scale mini's.

Week 9: The Herald of Discord - chaos space marine

In order to break my rash of not-posting, I whipped out one of my chaos space marines and painted him up quickly. I am still 2 weeks behind, but I intend to make up for it soon.

Week ? (is it 10?): The Raf - Eldar Fire Dragons

Well it's just past midnight but the little buggers are done. I went for an ashen look with fiery gems instead of the "fiery armor" look that GW seems to give them, I personally think it looks more menacing, but your opinion may vary. They had been started a while back but languished until now with pretty much just the gun tips and the first drybrush coat done. On my paintjob I think I enjoy the little tripled tassles around their feet and arms the most. The highlighting doesn't seem to come out too well in the photos but I'm too tired at this point to care about redoing the pics. Hope you guys enjoy them!

Bonus: The Raf - Mulg finished off

This one doesn't have to count for the blog, just thought I'd share anyways. Had a half-finished Mulg The Ancient for months now that I figured I should use my current painting kick to finish off. I mostly needed to do his toga, rear runes and club so that's what the first two "work in progress" shots show. I ended up washing his skin in blue ink one more time to get the right darker shade and I also did another lightened highlight inside the green sigils because I thought they still looked too dark on my original work. Took the WIP photos a couple of weeks ago back but just got around to finishing the old guy off - if you look closely you'll see the Vindicare and Warlock in various stages of being started.

This week: 2 Eldar goodies - 1 Fire Prism tank and 6 Fire Dragons, look for them soon!
