Boba Fett

72mm Fett. Took a while to work through and there were some tricky parts to deal with here and there. The mask was one.

Elvish Ranger

My latest. A 54mm Dark  Elf...kind of. Was nice and easy to work on. Couple of things I`d work on a little more with her, but overall I am happy with how it looks.

Reaper Messenger

This was done in a day. it was done for a D&D Rpg game to represent a character. I didn't spend anywhere near as long as I normally do. For what it is and for a reaper mini it isn't bad. Did pale elf flesh but as usual if I am going to complain about something on it I will say flesh. its the stuff that just straight out pisses me off. getting a smooth skin finish is just hard for me.

i tend to like knights. big hunking helmet wearing, no skin showing tin men. Otherwise this mini is ok. not amazing, not remotely near show quality, but for its intended purpose its ok. It was also fun to do just something more frivolous and not be stressed about its outcome.

Wolverine

This one has been ongoing for a long time but got it done last night. Was cool to paint, had lots of fun doing it and this one had no real issues to deal with. bargain all round.

Tanks tanks tanks a lot...

Despite real life and home renovations I did manage to get some more tanks completed.

The Punisher tank is pretty heavily converted (the gun is from the much newer demolisher kit as is the front heavy bolter etc.) The Demolisher is a stock build save for stowage etc.

Blogger doesn't seem to want to upload photos from Flickr today but there are lots of tank shots at the link above! I'll upload them manually when I get home.

Ju-88 Airfix Build

My first for the year. This was for another challenge. Though only for a single model. The theme had to be anti-shipping aircraft and this Junkers Ju-88 fit that requirement. The Junkers was an amazing plane that filled a bunch of different rolls. From bomber, anti-shipping and even as a huge heavy fighter when they fitted a bunch of canon to its nose.

This kit was not a fun one to build. The molds for this kit are 40 years old and over time the process causes them to deteriorate. GW will be facing this problem as well at some point. With the molds being so old the fit quality is well gone. Nothing fitted right, parts were to big or to small. A nightmare. I have included 2 pics one overall and the other a closer up image of the weathering I did on the fuselage. I have two big figures to do this year.

A Question about Ghosts...

Later this year I will be working on a large 1/32 P-51 Mustang fighter. It was called Cripes A Mighty and its pilot was a leading ace with the 352nd Fighter Group. George Preddy had more than 20 planes shot down which is a decent feat for Allied pilots. German and Japanese who were not rotated home had a lot more.

He was killed by friendly anti-aircraft fire which mistook him for an enemy aircraft in 1944.

So here is the thing. As he died violently I don't want to be flippant with how I handle the kit and the mini of him. The mini is a very cool one of him sitting on the rim of the cockpit of his fighter. I am seriously tempted to paint the mini as a ghost as artistically that might look really cool. I have never painted a ghost before, but I know some of you guys have painted water/air elementals which share some characteristics with a ghost kind of painting techniques. I obviously want it to look good. Anyone have any ideas of how to make the mini look cool but ghostly?

The attached image is the mini sitting in the Mustang cockpit.

Eldar Warp Spiders

Finally painted up my full squad of 10 Warp Spiders with Exarch. For once I did a look extremely close to the standard GW paintjob...because their standard paint job actually matched my Saim-Hann theme! Weapons done in my general blue look like my vehicle guns while the symbols on their foreheads are just the basic decals that come on the Eldar transfer sheet. I sprayed them a bit heavily with matte varnish so they came out looking a little cartoony but I'm okay with the look. I've also got a video up that shows them a little closer, as well as the backs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qk36DyS0oeU

Also, a couple of vids that look at the construction and strategy of a couple of recent tournament armies - even if you're not interested in the gaming stuff the vids are a good look at the painted minis:

#1: Saim-Hann army: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwhCd68if6M
#2: Mechanized army: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1WrSptbrqc

Cheers guys, and keep on paintin'!

What I am working on.

Nothing quite finished as everything has been big and I need to find my airbrush. I am 2/3 done on a 1/72 German Ju-88 bomber. Up to painting the massive 1/48 scale VF-19 from the animate series Macross Plus. Figure wise I have a 1/48 US  Navy Pilot to do and a sexy missile launcher chickie from the Infinity game. There is no way I will be doing 52 this year lol

Farseer on jetbike & 2 more warlocks

After a smashingly fun tournament today I came home pumped up to finish my second Jetbike Farseer and two more warlock buddies, which I did :). Two more warlocks to go until I have a full unit of 10 available...

I'm very much loving the Saim Hann style of army these days, hence the need for more psychic masters on bikes in general!

I tried to do something quite original (or so I think) with the farseer, I hope you like him.

Second Fire Prism Grav Tank

Happy February everyone :). Just finished my second Fire Prism for my Eldar army, got a few shots of it plus a shot of both together. Last pic is all a shot of a recent army I took to a tournament, including my army board - the board I made the night before, pretty basic job that included a can of Stone Effects spray paint that sprays down with the texture you see.

Nice to see the blog is still running!

Edit: on a side note, it appears the blog has randomly decided to rotate several of my iphone photos either 90* or upside down completely...strange since the target image displays right side up in Windows. Any know why this is happening?

Week 2011.4 : Karl - Faceless Demon

I think this is the last of the figures I needed to paint for the one friend, except the dragon. That one may take some time, and probably would not be a "weekly mini" at all! I don't think it is a Ral Partha sculpt because the base is not shaped like the others. The bottom is defaced, so I cannot read any of the words. I might search for it later.

The odd thing about this miniature is the total lack of detail on the face. It simply is not there. I applied my standard layered paint technique interspersed with some washes and dry brushing for a quick and easy paint job.

Week 2011.3 : Karl - 8th Indian Support

There was a flurry of painting this week. I had a tournament to attend at the end of this week. The first set of figures were two six pounders and crew. The second set of figures was more finishing off what I had started in a previous posting as well. If I remember correctly I pulled off 2 wins, 2 draws and a loss. Not bad for their first outing.
I never claimed they were pretty, I just claimed that they are done.

Week 2011.2 : Karl - 8th Indian HQ

Here are my figures for week 2 of 2011. These are the commanders of my Flames of War 8th Indian Division army. The force will have a mix of uniforms since I'd like to use the figures for both the Italy (dark brown) and Africa (light brown) campaigns. Tanks will not be in evidence even though the 4th Canadian supported the Indians at the fourth battle of Monte Cassino. The dark skin tones are done using the same method and with the same colours as the light skin tones, I simply did not continue to the lightest skin tones.
The bases are organized by rank. The first in command (CIC) has 1 figure (the Colonel) in front while the second in command (2IC) has two. Historically, the units were commanded by British officers, and the units were mixed religions, so not all of the infantry units I paint will be clad in turbans. More bases will be added in the following weeks.

Week 2011.1 : Karl - Flame On

Still trying to finish off those remaining figures. A Ral Partha fire elemental hit the table last week and has been completed. The good thing about theses figures is each one is different, and that make painting more enjoyable. I will try to paint a different "race" of figure or group of figures each week.

I had quite a lot of fun with the transitions through the different reds and yellows. Obviously I need some work, but I learned a bit. I suppose I should have tried wet blending on this figure. Maybe next time.

Week 52: Tristan - final few minis for 2010

Well I had a lovely long holiday season that included a trip to BC.  In the last few weeks of 2010 I got a couple more guys painted as I've kicked into hobby gear again.  For the past month I've been assembling more space marine models to paint next year - and one in particular (my first land raider) forced my hand to paint a 6th member of my Crimson Fist terminators so the land raider can roll with a full squad.
He's not perfect - the eagle and other bone details didn't get the right colour wash and the white on the head isn't as clean as the rest of the squad, but from a foot away it's hard to tell so I'm classifying him as done!

I also got a couple more necromundan rats painted up.  Very similar to the two I did very early in 2010.  I picked up two more since I want to try running a Wyrd Coven gang using Anthony Case's rules and a beastmaster wyrd can actually gain a boost that allows him to control an extra beast.    I want to get some of the other beast types this year.

This will probably be my last post for this blog.  It was fun following you guys as we all attempted to paint a mini a week, but I found it difficult to keep up with posting on my own blog and my overall amount of painting seemed to diminish.  I'm sure there were other factors involved but I found myself painting models I wasn't planning to use as much (not a bad thing) and my motivation for painting this year was low.  In 2011 I'm going to try to focus on my own blog as posting more frequently there kept my motivation higher and tended to get more response.  All the best in 2011 guys and I will be continue to follow your endeavours.  I hope to play more WHFB and 40k this year so keep me in mind if you are looking for an opponent.
